There was a little girl I knew, with vibrant, dancing eyes;
A slender, graceful, little girl, with skin pulled taut that shined;
A careful, hopeful, spirited child with hair that flew behind;
A princess in a castle soon locked up, constrained, confined.
…Just trying to understand her land.
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Are skin-thick walls too strong to fall?
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Am I anywhere in there at all?
Her insides itching, burning, how she longed to leave that nest.
She used her vibrant, brilliant crown to rip and tear her dress.
She was too confused and dizzied to tame her once golden, now ashen locks.
She’d come to lose all certainty, so beaten by the clock.
…I can’t remember where she began.
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Are skin-thick walls too strong to fall?
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Am I anywhere in there at all?
Society ignored and ridiculed. They glared, frowned on her laughter.
I treated her unfairly too- I starved, I stuffed, I gagged her.
The make-shift evil stepmother, she prodded, plucked, abused her.
There’s a reason fairytales end when they do- He pushed, then pulled. He used her.
…I gave her into his hands.
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Are skin-thick walls too strong to fall?
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Am I anywhere in there at all?
There was a little girl I knew. Where is the fire that fueled her?
Infiltrated by apathy, after the world had fooled her,
She fell, was buried beneath the weight of fat, of filth, of sorrow.
Her eyes and smile don’t light up the same, but no one will remember that tomorrow.
…Will they see that face again?
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Are skin-thick walls too strong to fall?
Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall,
Am I anywhere in there at all?
This poem was so deeply moving and poignant that I would very much like to hug you and give you the hope of Jesus. So, hugs and hope to you. I have been through those same things and am out on the other side in peace and joy because of Jesus. May His love fill and heal you.❤

Lydia, I want to thank you for the honesty in your writing. Whether your telling a purly fictional poem, or showing a glimpse of yourself with such relatable words. I appreciate your talent and hope you realize you’re talented with the pen. Keep them coming, poems of the woman you are now and the journey you’ve traveled to get here. ☮️

I have come to your site to thank you for your follow and to become acquainted. I read the above poem and I am still digesting its content , as I have read it twice. You have a beautiful gift with words. I hope to read further and learn more. And I welcome you to come by, read, and share. A like is okay but a few words in comment helps me, enforcing if or not I am actually reaching anyone with my words.

Thanks for taking the time to digest! I’m also glad you deem me as having a gift with words, as sometimes digesting could mean that I’m just confusing! 😉 Comments are helpful for me as well to know if I am reaching anyone too! Thanks for reading and reaching out!
I was actually just reading one of your posts and couldn’t find a button to comment! I appreciated your thoughts on the younger generation. It’s great that they’re getting involved and fighting good fights. It made me think about how, even when we don’t agree with the youth, we as adults should be careful to respect and encourage them! We can do so much damage to young minds by being hurtful. Do you know where a comment button might be on your page? 🙂

Earlier today while exchanging comments with you I took time to find the word that would explain your affect on me. It was “mirror”… and here I am. Poetry fills poetry well written with more poetry. Thanks for all of today, dear friend.
